"Install screenshot extension for IE" option locks up Firefox

screenshot tool version: 0.96
OS: Windows 7 pro 64 bit
Firefox: 10.0.2 (32 bit)
IE: 9.0.8

I have a very slow internet connection (0.5 Mbit/s).

On installing Fireshot for Firefox (which takes maybe 20s) I clicked "yes" on the "Install Fireshot for IE" option.

Having done this Firefox froze.

The progress bar for "installing components" (presumably the Firebug IE installer) came up, got to about 75% complete and then appeared to hang.

After about 10 minutes I gave up. I killed Firefox via the task amanger and managed to get it running again, with Firebug installed successfully.

Eventually after about 20 min the IE plugin install completed.

So, the key issue here is simply this- please if possible run the IE install asynchronously, otherwise the users's Firefox browser locks up for so long they are going to think the whole process has hung.

Hmm.

I now discover that although the Firefox Addon seems to have installed successfully, the Addon for IE9 is showing constantly as "disabled" in the UI of Internet Explorer, even though the addon is shown as enabled in the IE addons manager.

Looks like the install of the IE addon is broken. Perhaps this is because i'm running the 64 bit version of Win7?

Ah, I see why now. The addon installer is still saying "Registering libraries", 30 minutes after I kicked it off!

I stll have a task called "fireshot-deply.exe" running, which is doing absolutely nothing (no CPU activity or I/O), so it looks as if it is waiting for something that is never going to happen.

I hope this doesn't leave IE9 stuck a with a broken addon. Looks like I will have to kill the task and then clean up the mess.

Hello,

normally, the installer does not depend on your connection speed. Something is blocking installer from completion. Did you try clean installing after clean reboot?

Yes, I disabled the plugin in IE, then downloaded the standalone installer for the IE plugin and ran that. It completed ok so I now have the plugin working in IE.

The issue seems to be with kicking off the IE installation from withing Firefox. There's a single UAC prompt early on, but some time after that it just stalled.

This feature has been implemented in 0.98 release.

I can confirm this. It's currently working fine. Works with the latest Windows 8.1 too.
