FireShot not working in Firefox

Pages: 1
Posted:  30 Nov 2016 23:55
I have used free version of Fireshot with Firefox for a couple of years with great results. Now for the last couple of months it has suddenly stopped working.
All software is up to date. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times.Might work once after a reboot, but then stops responding again with message "Error: couldn't open library sss.dll: error 126".

. FireShot version: 0.98.89
    OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit
    Version of browser Firefox 50.0
Steps to reproduce the bug : normal usage
Webpage URL causing this problem : every page
Error message : Error: couldn’t open library sss.dll: error 126 In most cases, disabling the anti-virus software or FireShot reinstall helps.

Please help

It seems, that the file SSS.dll is missing or your anti-virus software is blocking Firefox from loading this library properly.

The error 126 means: "The specified module could not be found."

The file SSS.dll is not missing, it was installed with Fireshot.
The anti-virus software - Bullguard - has not been changed since before Fireshot was first installed, but I will run some more checks.

Same here.
Fireshot Pro not working AT ALL after FF update to 50.0.2. Works fine before the FF update. Nothing is being block, nothing has changed except the FF update. It seems once again that FF has  deprecated more things. That's how it is. Nothing has changed except FF. Is there any way to keep up because FF is about to make more significant changes, (https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2015/08/21/the-future-of-developing-firefox-add-ons/)?

IMPOPRTANT
After downgrading FF back to 50.0.1, Fireshot Pro works as expected.

. Error message : ONLY when I click on licsensing information, I get "Error: couldn’t open library sss.dll: error 126 In most cases, disabling the anti-virus software or FireShot reinstall helps."

Thanks for the info. I've just tested the freshly installed Firefox 50.0.2 browser and FireShot Pro (https://getfireshot.com/fireshot-install.exe).

It seems to work nicely. Can you please check, whether the file SSS.dll exists?

Thank you very much.
1) I checked and SSS.dll is in C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\FireShot on my computer.
2) Yesterday, Fireshot had a few times it was unresponsive even on FF 50.0.1 (I had downgraded). Only restarting Firefox would make it work again.
3) Today after seeing your post, I was ready to upgrade to FF 50.0.2 again and disable/re-enable all add-on to see if any were updated and recently made incompatible with Fireshot. If that didn't tell me anything, I was going to try a new profile and after that, a fresh install of Firefox. (I save everything as an image so I can return to previous state.)
TODAY: Surprise. I updated to Firefox 50.0.2 again and Fireshot is working.

I will monitor Fireshot. If it becomes unresponsive and restarting Firefox is needed to make it work again, I'll let you know. If it stops working and the button loses the icon and I get the error message when I click on licensing info, I will post that as well. My fingers are crossed and I hope it goes well from here on.

To end this discussion, I personally have given up. Works ok if I only make a selection of the page, but when trying to copy an entire page (even a small one) it invariably crashes and does not work again until a reboot. Much easier to use in Chrome or another browser.

Thank you for your update! I'm really sorry for this inconvenience. Yes, the Chrome version uses another DLL interaction scheme, so one of the browsers shall always work.

In Firefox 54,0 (64-Bit) for Linux Mint, get in some pages this message:

Error: couldn't open library sss.dll: sss.dll

What is this time the problem?

Had the same problem when FF updated to 55.03. Go to the Mozilla support site and look for help on how to enable disabled extensions. I found the procedure and it involved going into the "about:config" page and changing one Fireshot setting from true to false. I wish I could remember the exact string but after hours of looking for notes, I gave up. This was to change a FF disabled extension back to enabled.
Sorry I couldn't find the exact syntax. I did a DuckDuckgo search on disabled FF extentions and found it within 1 minute.

Found it:

What are my options if I want to use an unsigned add-on? (advanced users)

Firefox ESR version 45, as well as the Developer Edition and Nightly versions of Firefox, will allow you to override the setting to enforce the add-on signing requirement by changing the preference xpinstall.signatures.required to false in the Firefox Configuration Editor (about:config page). There are also special unbranded versions of Firefox that allow this override. See the MozillaWiki article, Add-ons/Extension Signing for more information.

Made this change, Fireshot Pro immediately worked again.
I'm getting so fed up with FF! Constantly downgrading their browser to useless!

Re: Firefox Quantum 57.0 (64-bit)
My license is rejected?   It's been working forever.  Please advise I paid for this excellent product.  Let me know if you are working on it or when the working version will be available for Quantum.

Thanks
