I suspect this has something to do with a DLL or something that is being written to a folder or needs access to something that my work PC has protected (I do not have admin rights).
Whenever I click on any Fireshot tool or try other means (right click menu, toolbar menu, etc.) as soon as I try to capture, FireFox just closes with no warning or errors. Does anyone know of a workaround such as reinstalling somehow to a different directory? I love this program and am bummed it will not work. Thanks, Mike Environment Windows xp SP2 FireFox 3.0.5 FireShot 0.67 - but this has been happening since the last version. |

I think I know the reason of your problem.
Since 0.65 version FireShot migrated to storing the settings into the file which is created in the same directory as SSS.dll file is located in. So you have 2 variants: - make sure FireShot can create settings.ini file here. Ask for r/w privileges or install Firefox Portable into another writable directory (at least USB Flash) - downgrade to 0.63 release Actually you don't need admin rights to be able to install addons and perform writing to Firefox's profile, so your case a kind of a puzzle for me. __________________ FireShot Pro Pro Full Webpage Screenshots will be moving to a subscription model soon!

But could you do me a favour by describing your case and why can't you write to your DOCUMENTROOT ("C:\Documents and Settings\evgeny" in case of my PC) ? __________________ FireShot Pro Pro Full Webpage Screenshots will be moving to a subscription model soon!

woohoo! It was the settings.ini file missing that did it. I compared what I had installed at home (with admin rights) to what was at work (no admin rights) and noticed that at work the settings.ini file wasn't there. I basically just copied everything from my home PC's library folder into my work PC's library folder and it worked. I don't know why it didn't write there. I clearly have rights to the area if I can paste files into there, I would think... Thanks for your help and for a great program. -Mike |

Hey, unfortunately, this problem resurfaced. I think I got lucky and temporarily had admin rights the other day. Does Fireshot write Registry values? I am thinking this might be the issue.... |

No, FireShot doesn't write to registry. Just disk. __________________ FireShot Pro Pro Full Webpage Screenshots will be moving to a subscription model soon!

Does it write or access anywhere outside of the Mozilla folder? |

When exporting, it also uses FireShot folder located inside of your APPDATA folder.
To check the files FireShot uses you can use FileMon (doesn't work for FireShot Pro) https://technet.microsoft.com/sysinternals/bb896642.aspx __________________ FireShot Pro Pro Full Webpage Screenshots will be moving to a subscription model soon!

thanks for the tip. The only thing I can think of is that my company is now restricting unauthorized DLLs or JARs or something.... |

Which file initiates the creation of the settings files? The Jar file or one of the DLLs? I'm guessing that is the problem. That file is somehow blocked from doing what it needs to do here at work... |

update on this one, I had it working for a while but my employer has since restricted us from writing to certain parts of the registry. It seems there is a CLSID key that FS tries to write to that I noticed was on my home system that isn't getting into the work registry which I can view, but not modify:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6E6E744E-4D20-4ce3-9A7A-26DFFFE22F68}] @="FireShot" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6E6E744E-4D20-4ce3-9A7A-26DFFFE22F68}\InprocServer32] @="C:\\Documents and Settings\\Owner\\Application Data\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Profiles\\wqs9zfev.default\\extensions\\{0b457cAA-602d-484a-8fe7-c1d894a011ba}\\library\\fsaddin-0.68.dll" "ThreadingModel"="Apartment" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6E6E744E-4D20-4ce3-9A7A-26DFFFE22F68}\ProgID] @="FireShot.FireBand.1" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6E6E744E-4D20-4ce3-9A7A-26DFFFE22F68}\TypeLib] @="{22837053-8A62-4916-AB1D-8B2C2D2CD593}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6E6E744E-4D20-4ce3-9A7A-26DFFFE22F68}\VersionIndependentProgID] @="FireShot.FireBand" I don't expect that there is anything that the developer can do about this, just FYI in case anyone else ever encounters this. |

mikeanto, the registry items you specified are for FireShot for Internet Explorer. They're created when you install FS for IE from Firefox. If you don't do this, they're not created. I mean, these items does not affect on FS for Firefox and cannot shutdown Firefox.
Does this bug occur even after updating to 0.69? __________________ FireShot Pro Pro Full Webpage Screenshots will be moving to a subscription model soon!

Yeah, unfortunately it still won't work without admin rights. I guess back to the theory about work denying access to certain directories or the running of the DLLs? |

Update: the problem has been solved: prior to 0.69 release FireShot has some packed DLLs that are treated as malware. Starting from next release, these files will not be packed.
FireShot will increase the size by 80% but I hope it will be still worth downloading. __________________ FireShot Pro Pro Full Webpage Screenshots will be moving to a subscription model soon!
