DPI and Resolution Settings - Pro Version Trial

Hello,
I have been a free user of FireShot and I find the program very useful. I need to do some capturing where I can work with DPI and resolution settings and have upgraded to the Pro trial with the intention of buying the Pro version. However, I can't locate the settings for DPI and resolution. I am sure it is an easy miss, but I have tried various avenues and searched through the support boards and tutorial/demo without any luck. I am wondering if the Pro Version Trial does not have all the features because I keep seeing things about DPI and resolution setting options but I just can't locate the controls. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks so much for your time! |

Thank you! Where do you want to change DPI? In PNG/JPEG files or just for PDF?

I am hoping to change the DPI or resolution for PNG/JPEG files. This is to hopefully capture print-quality images that need the 300 dpi resolution.
If there are other ways to adjust the resolution settings that I am missing, please direct me to them. I saw one post that says you get some options when you choose Save the selection, but I do not get any options (besides changing the file name) when I chose Save the selection. Thanks again for your time. |

Please correct me if I'm wrong:
The page is captured with a system default DPI = 96, so if I want it to be a 300 DPI image, I have 2 choices: - the image extents (width, height) will be decreased (by 300/96), the quality stays the same. - the image extents will be the same. The quality goes low because the image has to be upscaled by the 300/96 factor. Here is a way to increase the FireShot resolution in your PDF output file, regardless of your screen resolution. Not a general solution, but it might work for you sometimes.
1. Zoom into the webpage of interest, using Ctrl + or Ctrl + MouseWheel. For some webpages, you'll end up seeing just the leftmost section of the page on your screen (with a large horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of your window). But the text itself is much larger (and the pictures, most times.) This worked for me on one website, where the pictures just didn't get saved with the regular "Print to PDF" in the browser. The text size will enlarge as well as the pictures, and you can end up with very large letters and few letters per line -- so probably not really what you want to save. But this is worth a try; different zoom levels might work better, depending on the webpage. 2. Use FireShot to save the page to PDF. Not only will it scan its way through the page vertically, it will also scan across (horizontally). The results, in a standard PDF page size of "letter" or "A4" is a very high-resolution PDF -- not gigantic pages, just normal-sized pages with very high resolution. It takes considerably longer for FireShot to scan this way, but if the higher resolution PDF is truly needed, the time is worth it. I've only been using FireShot for a day now (with Chrome), so I don't know for sure if this will work for everybody. But it's worth giving it a (fire) shot. |

| Experimenting some more, I found that with multiple screens on a Windows 10 system, I could stretch my Chrome window across both screens (even with one portrait and one landscape), to get more text on each line at the higher zoom level in the browser. FireShot handled it all just fine, and I ended up with text in the PDF that does not look jaggy. | ||

Another "resolution" issue I have been facing is that when I use FireShot to convert webpages to PDF, viewing the text back on the same screen is almost painful. Acrobat's controls occupy significant areas of the screen, enough that reduces the available pixel count for the "scanned" image. Pictures look fine, but not the text. Some letters are too thick, others are so thin as to be almost invisible, depending on where they fall on the page. Overall, it is just ugly.
But I found a way to make it very, very readable in Acrobat. Your mileage may vary (you might need to play with the Zoom percentage): 1. Open the FireShot-generated PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader (in a full size window). 2. Click into the Zoom percentage field (top. right-center). Type 85 and press Enter. 3. Press Ctrl+H to enter Reading Mode (and eliminate the right-hand Acrobat panel). 4. Text will be displayed normally now. 5. Right-arrow a couple of times to get the text to start near the left side of screen. 6. Repeat procedure for each new PDF to be read. |

Thank you for your suggestion! I can confirm it's a nightmare how Acrobat provides viewing usability . | Yes, opening at 100% is probably the answer for many users. But for some reason, with my high-resolution monitor in Portrait mode, when I use 100% zoom in Acrobat Reader, the displayed page runs well off the right side of the monitor, the same monitor where I just took the FireShot. I have to go down to 85% to have the whole width of the page viewable, and even then I have to do the Ctrl+H (Reader Mode) to see it. But that combination does work for me. | ||
