| I have been using Fireshot on a regular basis (XP Professional).Today, went to use - got message that update was available - updated - now Fireshot does not work at all. Will only link to various promo services - nothing else works. Restarted machine - than got the update available info previously shown -and it still does not work. I am desperate! | ||

| I believe it was .08 and now is .083 ? I downloaded this in February 2010, and to my knowledge there have not been any updates that I can recall, so I assume the version on my machine is what you had a the download in Feb. I used this often, but never had any problem until today. Also, I have the ScreenShot Studio, but I cannot seem to capture entire website page, only what appears on the screen. Am I correct or am I missing something that would allow me to skip Fireshot altogether - though I love it! Thanks for your help! | ||

Ok, I'll try to help you.

| I have been using FireShot for about a month in both firefox and IE 8. The version in firefox has and still does work fine. The version in IE worked earlier today and then all of a sudden I'm getting error "The update is available, please update the program." when I click the FireShot button. I've uninstalled FireShot, rebooted, reinstalled FireShot by downloading from your website the following file fireshot-0.81-ie.exe and I'm getting the same error. When I go to manage add-ons via internet explorer I see version 1.0.0.1 with a file date of 2/5/10 12:38AM. I tried ctrl+shift+j in IE 8 and it brings up the feeds window. | ||

I am having the exact problem described above with the update message. I too have uninstalled and reinstalled FireShot in both IE and Firefox and I continue to get the same error.

Vista SP2 Problem as described in this thread (not working in IE 8.0.6001.18882, instead asking for update, btw. tells me there is none needed?!?). cannot access settings nor does it a shot of webpage |

i disagree:
ok, the initial problem seems to have been fixed. but with 0.83 the save to disk is broken, doesnt save nor error message. if file already exists, there is a message asking for override, but no write. if filename unique, no write either. but it saves properly when annotations have been made, so at least there is a workaround. |

Thank you for answering me, a somewhat suffering user. But there is a misunderstanding. The problem never was inside Firefox, where the plugin just works fine. It is the IE version (as described earlier) that doesnt write files any longer. BTW: my previous assumtion about "saving editet content" was false. It doesnt work either. :-(
That is why it doesnt seem to make sense following your instructions right now. |

Ok, this time, my sense of humor got lost:
- I downloaded and installed the debug version. - when i wanted it to run, it failed creating the file (not unexpected) - when i tried to change the privileges to c:\ i made a mistake, as it changed way too much (subdirectories apparently included), therefore my security got messed up - finally i created a file with that name and allowed write/append access to it - then fireshot still had the same error and refused to run - now will have to get my security fixed (i know that is not easy!) - and i will no longer permit such exceptions to fireshot (or to anything else), as - even though i have been a software developer myself - this caused me to have to work too much unnecessary stuff which i cannot afford. Also my trust in the QA from your side is gone. - please do not take this personally. I know, many software creating companies do not use such things like computer security properly. - but my PC had a pretty high level of functionality (was configured properly). fortunately, i may recur to a partition backup to restore most of it, even though this also takes time. good luck with your efforts in developing this interesting piece of software |

Once again Fireshot fools the user by refusing to work: "Update is available. Please....".
It doesn't work anymore since yesterday, the "update-me" box is all what FS does. I agree with older statements, it's totally unacceptable to stop service, if I do not update. What to do now? (FS 0.91 in FF 3.6.18) |

| As others have already pointed out, it's totally UNACCEPTABLE to stop service, if I do not update!!! I totally understand your logic of letting users try out your new program and earn some money but doing this (blocking out the free program that made made our lives easier and you famous!!) will really irk loyal customers like us! Let users pay for the premium version but do not monkey around by completely blocking the program that all of us are so used to working with!! | ||

JK,
your users didn't ask for an update site (where the program sits in "not reviewed"-state). Your users asked you to stop that anti-user-feature "update-me-or-I-wont-work". Every other Addon I use, asks me "do want to update?" and if i want to, it does so. If I refuse, it works on. Your programm does not offer an update question. Instead it simply stops working...?!?! It's unbelievable to see a famous program driving its own users to competitors. Who was the inventor of that pattern? dBase! Regards |
