save button not working

Pages: 1

Hi new to screenshot studio here.  (firefox extension toolbar)

I have been using screenshot for the last 5 days and suddenly today the save button no longer saves to disk.  I have reloaded the software and after saving three screenshots the save button stopped working again.  Cleared the cache, closed and reopened browser, click on the save button and ...... nothing.

workaround: copy to clipboard and paste into a word doc, but this is getting tedious.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can stop it?

Please call it FireShot. ScreenShot Studio is another project.

Any logs in Firefox Error console? When you press 'Save' button, is 'Save Dialog' displayed?

How do you copy to clipboard?

I have the same problem. Save only works a couple of times, then it stops.

Please, provide me with some logs from error console.

I'm having the same problem.  I click 'save' and nothing appears to be happening.  Where do I find the logs from error console and where should I send them?

FF 2.0.0.8
XP

Ok, please try https://jk.tomsk.ru/fireshot/fireshot_171.xpi and tell whether the problem has been solved. If not, provide me with link causing the problem and contents of error console which is available at address: chrome://global/content/console.xul

Hint: you can send screenshot of it (this version allows capturing chrome:// addresses).

it can not save large pages from internet
it says that the room is not enough when i entry page
Posted:  01 Nov 2007 20:15   Last Edited By: Chris
Yeah, that works.  Took me a minute to figure out what I was actually doing though.  For the benefit of others using XP the .xpi might not have a file association.  If that's the case tell the popop window to open the file with programs>mozilla>firefox>firefox.exe

And as for that chrome://global/content/console.xul link you need to put that into the firefox browser address.

Regardless this appears to have fixed the problem and I'm now able to use the program.  I'm psyched... thanks for the quick response!

Alright, now it's not working again.  Scratch my last comment and keep some of the enthusiasm.  When I try to  fireshot the same page again nothing appears to happen.    Although when I try a new page it works.  After a few more minutes of testing it just seems inconsistent.

Here's the chrome response:
Error: [Exception... "'Component does not have requested interface' when calling method: [nsIInterfaceRequestor::getInterface]"  nsresult: "0x80004002 (NS_NOINTERFACE)"  location: "<unknown>"  data: no]
Posted:  01 Nov 2007 21:00
So, to conclude: the extension doesn't work with definite page. Is it right? Which link?

chrome response looks terrifying... Especially 'location: "<unknown>"  data: no' sad

Actually, even this version of XPI refuses to capture some pages, but error log message is another.

Yes, this is the truth. unsure
I've already published the calculations at the forum demonstrating this is really hard to do.

The link is to a password protected site.  What's strange is that it worked the first time but not the second time(or 3rd, 4th, etc.).  I'm taking a project management course and wanted to grab a couple of clips from the site to help me prep for a test.  I thought this would work well... now I'm left wondering.  Other screen capture software seems to work fine but YOUR software is way BETTER, if of course it worked on this site.  It's just html... not flash if that matters.  It lets me capture the page image, crop, edit, but it doesn't let me save that final product.

Here's the link:

It redirected me to https://g1bucec.idlsystems.com/buceccourses/login.do, I don't think this is right for testing.

Let me know following: does this bug happen to the same page, but loaded from disk (previously saved)?

If so, then could you zip it and share?

I saved the complete page to my hard drive and opened it and Fireshot worked fine off the saved file.  Crop, save, no issues.  And yet when I'm on the site where I'd really want to use FireShot it grabs the image, I can crop, but then it doesn't allow me to save.

If you want a .zip I'd need contact info.

I thought I'd add that the 'copy' feature IS working fine which I find ironic that I can successfully copy but not save.  But the 'mail' features isn't working in addition to the 'save' feature that I discussed above.  NOTE these are only issues on the site in the above discussion.  By and large this program works great... very well designed.

To finish the picture, how about 'Export to Editor' feature?

BTW, what is happening when you press Save button. Is "Save as" dialog displayed? If yes, what is happening then? I suspect some reasons this issue may happen because of, but need some additional info.

P.S. Glad to hear about FireShot smile

For those specific pages we're discussing, the 'export to editor' is not working either. It works fine on other sites so it's not likely an issue on my machine.

However... when I click on "export to editor" OR "email" I do get a quick glimpse of a status bar saying "please wait creating...".  But then nothing comes of it.  RE: email my default editor is thunderbird but I'm not sure that's even relevent.  And there's no status bar when I click 'save'.  Nothing appears to happen, no 'save as' dialog box or anything of the sort.

Thanks, that's informative. If you don't mind, I'll provide you with debug version of FireShot soon to discover the reason of the bug smile Please, drop me a line to bugfix@screenshot-program.com so that I could reply with it.

Ok, I think, I know the problem.
It's the lenghth of URL you're trying to capture. By now, the program uses it as a default file name, but Windows limits the maximal size of filepath to 255 bytes, so the program fails.

Makes sense.  I sent you my info if you want me to try the debug version otherwise it sounds as if you're onto something and I'll await testing a new version?

Fixed in 0.20b release. Please update from site.

The site appears to still hold only version .16  It also occurred to me that there's no version in the 'about' which would be helpful.  It's difficult to tell what version I'm on.

Ah, I see the problem.
The link is: https://screenshot-program.com/fireshot/fireshot.xpi
Please, download it and open in Firefox.

The version is displayed in "Extensions" dialog ("Tools -> Extensions").

The new version works like a charm.  I'll be sure to get back in touch with any relevant feedback, so far you've fixed all of the concerns discussed above.  This is a great add-on, thank you!

Sorry about not rejoining the thread earlier but Chris already seemed to have taken everything in hand.

Thanks to Both Chris for his time in following through and to JK for sorting the problem.

The new version has been working great, thanks JK.
