Troubleshooting - FireShot.

 

PREFACE: the advanced features of FireShot are provided by the native Windows application.
This makes FireShot quick and efficient. But some anti-virus software may prevent FireShot from normal functioning.

The list below shows the most common errors, and the ways of fixing them:

 

— Error: couldn't open library sss.dll: error 126

Description: FireShot could not run the library "sss.dll". The file can be damaged, blocked, or deleted.

Solution:

  1. Check the logs in your anti-virus program. If the file "sss.dll" is blacklisted, whitelist it.
  2. Check, if the file "sss.dll" exist (you should see the full path to this file in the error message).
  3. If the file does not exist in this folder, reinstall FireShot.

 

— Error: couldn't open library sss64.dll: error 126

Description: FireShot could not run the library "sss64.dll". The file can be damaged, blocked, or deleted.

Solution:

  1. Check the logs in your anti-virus program. If the file "sss64.dll" is blacklisted, whitelist it.
  2. Check, if the file "sss64.dll" exist (you should see the full path to this file in the error message).
  3. If the file does not exist in this folder, reinstall FireShot.

 

— Error: FireShot could not launch the host application (a path goes here)\fireshot.exe

Description: FireShot could not run the host application "fireshot.exe". The file can be damaged, blocked, or deleted.

Solution:

  1. Check the logs in your anti-virus program. If the file "fireshot.exe" is blacklisted, whitelist it.
  2. Check, if the file "fireshot.exe" exist (you should see the full path to this file in the error message).
  3. If the file does not exist in this folder, reinstall FireShot.

 

— Error: Required communication socket was not found in the range: [range goes here]

Description: FireShot could not connect to the host app via the WebSockets protocol. Either the application "fireshot.exe" is not running, or some firewall software is blocking FireShot.

Solution:

  1. Make sure the application "fireshot.exe" is running. To do this, either use the Task Manager, or check if the blue "S" icon exists in your system tray.
  2. If the application is not running, please follow the steps provided for the error "couldn't open library sss.dll: error 126" (the topmost error in this list).
  3. If the application is running, please check your firewall software for any blocking rules being set for the application "fireshot.exe".
